Last week, after naps we headed out to the Gardner Pool for some fun. We met up with all of the girls gymboree friends. All was well and great and fun until Jill's face and eyes started swelling up.
Then as she was eating a snack she started falling over in my lap. Not a good sign. So I immediately took her to the lifeguard station to have someone look at her. They suggested that we either call and ambulance or rush her to the emergency room. So I gathered up Kate and all our stuff and rushed to the emergency room. I made every attempt at keeping her awake on the drive to the ER. Jason met us in the parking lot as we were rushing in. Poor Miss Jill didn't even recognize him. Terrifying. Completely and utterly terrifying.
After a quick triage at the ER they ruled out dry drowning. They watched her oxygen saturation levels for the next hour or so. Finally the Dr. came in and we all agreed that she had some sort of allergic reaction to one of three things : chlorine, sun block lotion, or perhaps a bee bite. Not 100% sure on which it was. She has been in a chlorinated pool before and I use a PABA free and hypoallergenic sunblock. She had a bright red mark on her ankle that turned purple the next day so I am thinking she might have gotten stung by a bee or a spider. Not sure. The doctor gave her a dose of Benadryl and within 30 minutes her eyes stopped swelling and she started acting normal. I am guessing that our pool days are over for the summer and that I will always carry a bottle of Benadryl for emergencies. :)
Jill looks fine at the beginning....playing hard!
Miss Maddie chillaxin!
Miss Aubrey having a great time!
Uh oh, the eye itching begins.
Miss Amelia watching on the sidelines!
This is when I first started seeing some changes. Her eyes are swelling and she has bright splotches on her face. After I saw this, we left the pool area and sat down for a snack.
